Live Music: The Chair at Drygate

Saturday 07 July  7.30pm | Drygate | £14

Formed by brothers Hasan and Rami Nakhleh, whose home is in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights, TootArd are a ‘mountain rock reggae’ band seeking to transcend their circumstances’ privation and isolation, by making joyful, captivating, wittily ironic music, interweaving West African, Saharan and Caribbean strands with classical Arab modalities.

Trio Tekke are another intriguing synthesis: two Cypriots and an Anglo-Chilean, stirring together rebetiko, the Aegean’s answer to the blues, with Caribbean, Latin, jazz, and psychedelic sounds – and that’s even before you add in ex-Moloko drummer Dave De Rose, who’s also worked with Mark Ronson, Rokia Traore and Mulatu Astatke.

Just a beat from Glasgow’s historic heart, Drygate is the UK’s first experiential craft brewery, restaurant and event space. The venue operates as a multifunctional hub for a variety of corporate, private and artistic events, including collaborations with innovators in music, fashion, comedy, beer and food. Pop along to Drygate to see a live concert, a comedy gig, or just a fine bottle of in-house brewed beer!
